About the Department
At Rajalakshmi Institute of Technology, The Mechanical Engineering Department opened its doors for the first time in 2008. with a sanctioned intake of 120 students, since its inception, the department has actively participated in teaching, training, design, development, research, and extension activities. The department has brought out graduates who have excelled in every field, they have gone to and have brought laurels to the college. This extraordinary success has been achieved due to the highly qualified and dedicated faculty members and technicians along with the facilities in the department. The students graduating from this department have just the right ingredients to set the industrial, managerial, and administrative world ablaze with their achievements...

The Mechanical Engineering Department houses 9 well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories and Three Centre of Excellence in Advanced Manufacturing (CAM), Advanced Materials (CAMR), and Electric vehicle and Energy (CEVE). These labs have a specific emphasis on various experimental setups for Research and Development activities. The curriculum is in line with current practices in Industry and is rigorous enough to prepare students for successful careers after graduation. The Mechanical Engineering students are working with the real time industrial problem through the start-ups and Internships in the area of CAD/CAM which includes 3D modelling, simulation of work space, Analysis of the real time automotive components, etc, Digital manufacturing which includes the CNC Plasma cutting machines, CNC Wood Router machines, CNC vision based Milling Machines and CNC lathe, etc, Additive manufacturing which includes 3D printing, etc, Electric vehicels which includes design and development, Advanced materials investigations, etc.

B.E Mechanical Engineering Department establishes advanced R & D facilities by creating a center of excellence that propagates emerging technologies and develops cutting-edge technologies in the field of additive manufacturing. Electric vehicles include e-cycle, e-scooter, e-cars, etc. The department executes Research projects funded by various funding agencies. To ensure placements, the department signs MOUs with different industries and engages in technical training, seminars, presentations, guest lectures by experts, distinguished personalities, and delegates of foreign universities. Our national and multinational corporate partners offer appreciable absorbing capacities in the fields of automobile, manufacturing & design.
